Young nursing sister, Annabel James, leaves her steady job in England for work in Ahmadi Hospital, Kuwait. She sets off with the dream of a glamorous ex-pat life-style, but is soon disillusioned when she is trapped en-route by civil war in Beirut.
A helpful stranger, Greg, rescues her and escorts her to Kuwait by unconventional means. Once there she settles in, to find new friends and enjoy the culture.
She meets a handsome pilot from a visiting naval carrier, but Greg keeps disrupting her life, appearing un-announced, and in unexpected places, bringing with him the promise of excitement and mystery.
Alicia masterfully sets her tale against the backdrop of Kuwait’s hot and seemingly lifeless desert, building tension and suspense, and keeping the reader guessing to the end.
